Ontario
News
See what the competition is up to with over 60
on-line Ontario newspapers as well as radio and TV stations. Includes
radio and TV links. WARNING: The ads are
remarkably inappropriate, but just ignore them. If they bother you too
much, you can always use Open Directory Project's listing of Ontario
papers. There aren't as many, but should someone look over your shoulder
you won't be accused of checking out porn sites.
Ontario
Government Site
The official site of the Ontario Government. It's essentially propoganda
(it's a source of government news releases) but you have to know what
they're up to, otherwise you might get a nasty surprise. (NB: The preceding
was unpartisan cynicism.)
Canada
News
Listing
of Canadian newspapers by province. Includes radio links and links to
media associations. WARNING: Once again,
the ads are inapropriate. As an alternative you can use the Open Directory
Projects Canada
Newspapers listing.
Slate
(In-depth American coverage)
Slate's
style of "full coverage journalism" provides incrediblly in-depth
coverage of American issues with special focus on the actual media coverage
of these issues. Esspecially interesting is Scott Shugar's column, Today's
Papers.
American
News
Links to hundreds of on-line papers from the United States. (More inappropriate
ads.)
Third
World Network
The Third World Network (TWN) has a strong focus on World Trade issues
viewed largely from the perspective of developing countries. The copy
is professional, but without flair.
GlobalInfo
Globalinfo is another excellent souce of well researched and professionally
balanced world news stories. Again, however, the presentation is dry and
accessible only to the committed reader.
Showbizwire
Showbizwire works well for fast, informed, and current entertainment news,
at least as it pertains to the electronic, musical, and movie media. Not
really a source itself, Showbizwire selects interesting and current top
headlines from various online suppliers such as Billboard, E! Online,
Hollywood Reporter, and Rolling Stone.
ZDNet
Interactive iWeek
Specializes in Internet related issues. If you want the latest on Napster,
the crashing dotcom empire, or a place to buy Sea Monkey Aquarium Watches,
ZDNet is the source.
Offbeat
News
This up-to-the-minute service from Reuters focuses on odd and bizarre
news stories. Good for filler or inspiration for features.

Huron
Expositor
The
big news out of Seaforth, Ontario, home of the Huron
Expositor, is the rash of fires (nine in the past six weeks) in the
downtown core. OPP
are appealing to school children and high school students to help
track down the arsonist. Meanwhile, a number of businessmen proposed a
Citizens
On Patrol group, but were discouraged by Staff Sgt. George Lonsbary
on the grounds that it could interfere with the investigation.
In
other news, the Seaforth
Medical Clinic is refusing new patients. "I'm not surprised it came
to this," says Mary Cardinal, clinical leader of the hospital. "Across
Ontario, doctor shortages are a problem. Any family practice will tell
you they're very busy."
