The Periodical Writers' Association of Canada (PWAC) is hosting its sixth annual daylong seminar for journalists. Called WORDSTOCK 2001, it's being held this year, on June 9 at the Ryerson School of Journalism, 80 Gould St., Toronto (corner of Church and Gould).
Of special interest is Kim Novak (managing editor of the Simcoe Reformer and winner of a National Newspaper Award) who will be speaking on doing great work at small dailies and community newspapers. For more info, click here.

CAJ's Great Big Scrum 2
The Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) is holding its national conference, called The Great Big Scrum, in St. Johns, May 24 - 27. This year's theme is investigative journalism. The organizers promise they will "be looking under all the rocks and digging the dirt to get you the best in workshops, panels and lectures to help you get back to the roots of journalism." Annual Justicia Awards
The deadline for entries to the second annual Justicia Awards for Excellence in Journalism is May 30. These awards are sponsored by the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Commission of Canada and the Department of Justice. Two prize winners, one for print, one for broadcast, are chosen by an independent panel of judges appointed by the three organizaions. The purpose of the awards is to recognize outstanding news stories which promote public awareness and understanding of the Canadian justice system.
